Old crane

The old crane “Alter Krahnen”, a crane built of stone in the 16th century right on the riverside, still witnesses the prosperous trade, particularly with building material from the volcanic Eifel.
It was used until 1911 for shipping the millstones, delivered from the Eifel area and its mechanic is still intact until today! Using levers, the crane pillar can be turned 360° with the roof and the jib, while the load is raised by means of two large treadmills.
A rare, technical monument of the late Middle Ages.
