Surroundings, recreation, nature and sports

Imbedded in a picturesque landscape, Andernach is located on one of the most beautiful parts of the Middle Rhine. In addition to the climbing-towertown’s history and multi-facetted cultural program, Andernach offers various possibilities for nature experience, sports and recreation to ensure a pleasant and varied stay.
The 2000-year-old Roman city of Andernach with its imposing monuments steeped in history is a good point to start the voyage of discovery. Andernach’s well preserved fortification, its gates and towers are witnessing a history marked by times of defense and steadfastness.
Outside the city wall and next to downtown, wide open-space areas filled with a multitude of botanical rarities spread along the riverside. These are the most beautiful areas on the Middle Rhine, because of the view to the opposite shore with its rugged hillsides and wild and romantic vineyards of Leutesdorf.
Get amazed by the beautiful landscape on a romantic boat trip on the Rhine or relax on the flowering riverside and let your soul feel free.

´´Namedy Castle´´

Looking at this scenery and feeling the wind and the sun on your skin, when wandering on the „Lein path”, you will reach the well-known ‚Namedy Castle’. The adjoining hiking area of the Andernach city woods connects the district of Namedy with the districts of Eich and Kell.
Just like in the district of Miesenheim, narrow alleys, scenic places and idyllic inns invite the hikers to take a rest.
It is a unique experience to discover the attraction and the beauty of the landscape between the Romantic Rhine and the Eifel by bike.

VulcaniusAndernach is the ‘Gateway to Volcano Park’. Volcanological and archeological attractions carry the amazed visitors off to the natural history in the past and to the origins of this unique landscape. Thematic walking tours to volcanoes, minerals and herbs are as popular as the autumn camps and Roman festivals taking place in the Roman mine.
The natural monuments can easily be visited by car or on foot, using the information paths to get insights on the genesis of our landscape.

Das Bild
The nearby Nürburgring offers quite another attraction: The fascination of racing cars keeps the myth of Nürburgring going on and fills thousands of visitors with fascination year after year. The neighboring world of experience shows the complete spectrum of motor sport and therefore is a center of attraction for young and old.
